Last Saturday was an incredible fall day – blue sky, late season color, sun, and the smell of dry leaves. My wife reminded me that when we were in Utah we had discussed taking the kids on their first official mountain bike ride. We’ve done countless rides through the neighborhood, but we’ve never done a family ride on single track. Great idea!

About an hour later the entire Gnat family was rolling out of the Murphy-Hanrehan parking lot to hit the dirt ribbon. Murphy has a .8 mile beginner loop through the rolling prairie. After a little fear followed by encouragement on lap #1, the kids got the hang of it and really had a blast. In the end, we did 5 laps (4 miles) and both kids were so proud of their accomplishment….OK, mom and dad were too. Incredible day and one I’ll always remember.

These are pretty good too.

Kids Rule! Get out and ride!

Kids do rule. Your kids are particularly cool though, I must say. That’s because they have awesome parents… and because they love to ride bikes, which obviously predisposes me to love them even more!

Have a great weekend Jason. Thanks for the rad pics. Happy Halloween!

    Cheers,
    MG

Someday. That’s exactly the kind of stuff I look forward to. I’m going to be an uncle soon, so I hope to do that in a little while, but kids are a few years off for me. Great photos!

So true Ben. I got to ride with my nieces in Des Moines recently and it was definitely cool, but I suspect it’s even cooler when it’s your own kids. The looks on both of their faces are priceless… Nathan’s rad little look at the camera is hilarious! It totally reminds me of a motocross or BMX racer type of shot. He’s such a ham for the camera.

Great stuff! Thanks for that. I think we as adults could all stand to let go of the seriousness of cycling once in awhile and plaster that “kid-grin” back on our faces. It’s what it is all about in the first place. The joy of cycling.

Thanks guys. It was a grand day and one I’ll always remember.

It is so true you can learn a lot from kids. They were smiling, giggling and laughing pretty much the whole time.

Seeing kids have fun puts it all in perspective for me. It was much needed (at the time) and last week was better for me because of this day.
